Australian Youth Forum launch video transcript
[Minister for Youth, the Hon Kate Ellis, at the official launch of the Australian Youth Forum]
Kate Ellis: It’s a very exciting day because it’s marking the beginning of a new era in youth affairs in Australia, and more particularly, a new era in Government communication with both young Australians and with the youth sector.

Kate Ellis: We’ve committed to being a Government for all Australians, and of course that means young Australians too. So I am delighted to today be able to officially launch the Australian Youth Forum, and take you through the framework of how this will work.

Kate Ellis: We need to hear about what young people today have to say about their experiences and circumstances.

There is a groundswell movement of young people in this country who want to be vocal, who want to be involved and who want to be engaged.

For far too long young people have not been empowered to speak up, [camera pans Youth Engagement Steering Committee members on stage as minister continues to speak] and take their rightful place in public discussion, or worse – they have been silenced and misrepresented.

To all of you, I am really excited about the opportunity to work with you going forward. I am really excited about the potential of us going out there and engaging with young people, of us including young people and ensuring the Government supports young people. So with all of this said, I’d like to consider the AYF officially launched and I look forward to many, many of the conversations that we have to have through it into the future. Thankyou.
