youTHINK event video presentation
Faustina Agolley:
I’m Fuzzy and welcome to youTHINK. So what’s this all about?
Well it’s about you, what you think, your voice, your ideas.
Just to get you up to speed, the Australian Youth Forum, or AYF is about young people having input into public debate and being involved in issues that affect our lives now and into the future.
Vox pops: the opinions of young people at the event
Young person 1: Hello, I’m here for the discussion.
Young person 2: Everyone’s very optimistic and young people are very optimistic about the future and you know, their place in things.
Young person 3: Bridge the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous life expectancy.
Young person 4: I’m impressed by the amount of under 18 year olds here, so it’s great to get some young thought.
Faustina Agolley:
It’s important to know that the AYF was developed by young people,
for young people.
Young person 5: I think it’s great that the youth actually get a chance to speak about stuff to the government.
Kate Ellis, Minister for Youth:
Young people need to feel included in politics, and realise that
their voices and their opinions count. We’ve set up an ambitious and
innovative agenda, so today’s event marks just the beginning.
Young person 6: It’s a brave new world.
Young person 7: I’m fired up and passionate about ending conflict because I think that’s part of a democracy.
Young person 8: We do care, we’re passionate, we have lots of ideas about how to make a better future.
Young person 9: This one, it is actually making a difference.
Kate Ellis, Minister for Youth:
This is about using your input today into our policies and into
shaping the direction that we go in, in the future.
Young person 10: Most importantly, discuss ideas and creative solutions from a youth perspective
Young person 11: I cannot wait to get started.
Young person 12: Yeah it’s great!
Young person 13: To live in this world you know, you’ve got to be strong.
Young person 14: I actually enjoyed it, because the fact that this is the first time that they’ve done something.
Young person 15: Woohoo!
Young person 16: At least we got to voice our opinions.
Young person 17: Probably try and get more people involved in forums like this.
Young person 18: This is the time where everyone has to stand up and have their say and that’s what this event is all about.
Young person 19: It’s cause we can talk as much as we like, but it’s really a matter of the government saying “yes, we will do that.”
Young person 20: Basically opening the field for youths to just stand up and say what they want to say and what they think.
Young person 21: Not only will I be coming back next year, if it’s on, I’ll come to whatever I can.
Young person 22: I’ll be back next year, it was lots of fun.
Young person 23: And I hope that this is the start of more forums.
Jonty Bush, Young Australian of the Year:
We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can
build our youth for the future.
Young person 24: Decisions are made by those who show up. Well you’ve all shown up today, so let your voices be heard.
