The National Advisory Group on Body Image
In March 2009 the Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis, established a National Advisory Group on Body Image to provide advice on the challenging issue of body image. Chaired by Ms Mia Freedman, the Advisory Group consisted of representatives from relevant non-government organisations, academia, the health sector, the media and fashion industries and a youth representative.
The work of the Advisory Group was assisted by a month long online consultation held between 6 May and 5 June 2009. An information paper on body image supported the consultation and more than 150 submissions were received.
The Advisory Group presented their report to Minister Ellis in late 2009. Details of the Advisory Group’s recommendations, Advisory Group members and the Advisory Group’s terms of reference are included in the report.
