The Australian Government committed $10.5 million in last night’s Federal Budget for a new Youth Engagement Model.

Young people in Australia will shape the future of policy through the new model.

The model will ensure young people from diverse and at-risk cohorts are represented in consultations and engagement with government, including First Nations young people.

The model will be co-designed with the Youth Steering Committee, comprised of 15 young people.

The investment in youth will:

  • establish a Commonwealth Office for Youth
  • provide ongoing funding for Australia’s national peak youth organisation, the Australian Youth Affairs Coalition
  • establish issue-based youth advisory groups to give a direct youth voice in policy and program development across government
  • fund the development of a Youth Engagement Strategy.
