Young Australian of the Year awards

The Young Australian of the Year award is Australia’s peak award recognising the tremendous and important contributions that young people make to Australian society.

The Office for Youth is proud to be the official partner of the Young Australian of the Year award.

2024 Young Australian of the Year

At the ceremony in Canberra on 25 January, Emma McKeon AM was named the 2024 Young Australian of the Year.

Emma is the first female swimmer and the second woman in history to win 7 medals in a single Olympics. She has also broken Commonwealth Games, Olympic and World records.

2023 Young Australian of the Year

On Wednesday 25 January, Awer Mabil was named the Young Australian of the Year at the 2023 Australian of the Year Awards in Canberra.

Socceroo Awer Mabil is co-founder of the not-for-profit organisation Barefoot to Boots, which aims for better health, education, policies and gender equality for refugees.

2022 Young Australian of the Year

In 2022 we celebrated Dr Daniel Nour, the 2022 Young Australian of the Year. Daniel is a doctor who established Street Side Medics in August 2020.
