Climate change is everyone’s responsibility. Find out how you can make a difference.
Have your say
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in the work the Australian Government is doing for the environment.
Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW)
DCCEEW wants to hear from young people about the environment.
They hold ‘open consultations’ where you can have your say on policies and projects.
To get involved, visit the DCCEEW Consultation Hub (Have Your Say) webpage.
The Office for Youth (OFY)
The Office for Youth (that’s us!) connects young people and government to help shape policies and programs.
We have opportunities for young people to share ideas and be included in government decision-making.
In 2025 we will have a Climate Change and Water Youth Advisory Group. The members of this group will work with DCCEEW on Australian Government climate change and water related policy. Stay tuned to learn more about the work of this group!

Things you can do everyday
There are things you can do in your everyday life to make a difference to the environment.
You can reduce your greenhouse gas emissions by:
- walking or riding your bike or scooter
- catching public transport
- carpooling.
By being more energy efficient at home, you help reduce emissions and save on bills.
Take these small steps:
- turn off lights and appliances when you’re not using them
- close windows and doors when you’re heating or cooling a room in your house
- take shorter showers
- make sure taps are turned off
- where possible, use electricity instead of gas
- if you can, switch to solar.
You reduce your carbon footprint when you:
- start a compost
- take your own bags to the supermarket
- eat leftovers and meal prep
- buy things with less packaging
- don’t use single-use plastics like straws or cotton buds
- buy things second hand
- recycle where you can
- save extra water from the kitchen or laundry to use in the garden.
