Your personal information is protected by law, including under the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act).This privacy statement explains how the Office for Youth, which is part of the Australian Government Department of Education (the department), will handle your personal information that we collect in connection with your Youth Advisory Groups program application form.

Personal information

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified individual or an individual who is reasonably identifiable. Personal information includes an individual’s name and contact details.

Sensitive information

Sensitive information is a subset of personal information, which includes information or an opinion about your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs or affiliations, philosophical beliefs, membership of associations or unions, sexual orientation or practices, criminal record, health, and genetic or biometric information.

Purpose of collecting your information

Your personal information is collected for the purposes of administering the Youth Advisory Groups program, including assessing your application and suitability to participate in the program, contacting you in relation to the program, and facilitating and managing your participation in the program where relevant.   

If you do not provide some or all of the personal information requested, we may not be able to properly assess your application to participate in the Youth Advisory Groups.

Your name and email address may also be used by the Office for Youth to inform you about other opportunities to participate in youth engagement with the Australian Government or our state and territory government counterparts.

Disclosure of your personal information

The Office for Youth may disclose your name, age, and state or territory of residence to the Office of the Minister for Youth in connection with reporting on and administering the Youth Advisory Groups program.

If selected to be a member of a Youth Advisory Group, the Office for Youth may disclose your personal information to the partnering Australian Government department or agency associated with your Youth Advisory Group.

Your personal information may also be disclosed to other parties where you have agreed, or where it is otherwise permitted under the Privacy Act.

Your personal information is unlikely to be disclosed to overseas recipients.

Consent

We need your consent to collect your sensitive information. You do not have to provide any sensitive information. If you choose to include sensitive information in connection with your application, you consent to the Office for Youth collecting this information.
